The number of victims of drowning in the Euphrates River in Deir al-Zour and Raqqa has increased over the last three weeks to more than 20 people in Deir Ezzor alone, mostly young people, adolescents and children.

A medical source in the Deir Ezzor drew attention to another serious case related to these incidents, indicating that some victims may have been hit by a sunburst or so-called “heat stroke” while swimming, which led to sinking.

Correspondent of the “Euphrates Post” in the eastern suburb of Deir Ezzor, who provided us with the news of repeated drowning incidents during the past few days, reported that the last victim was a young man in the town of Abu Hammam, and quoted a medical source as saying,

The young man drowned with the beginning of his entry into the water, as a result of a sun stroke, which symptoms of convulsions of the body and loss of consciousness.

Our correspondent pointed out that what is likely to be the health of medical warnings is that some drowning events in the past few days have occurred to young people in river areas where water is very limited (water height not exceeding one and a half meters)

It is not easy for a young child who knows swimming to drown in it. In addition, some of the Swimmers is known for his great skill in swimming, and it is not easy to be drowned. Therefore, the sun stroke is one of the causes of drowning accidents in Deir Ezzor “SDF”.

Our correspondent quoted the same medical source as warning the residents of the Euphrates River to swim in the hours of extreme sunrise, at least until the severe heat wave that hits the country in general ends, but remains in the most affected city of Deir Ezzor, with temperatures exceeding the 46-degree barrier .

A sunstroke is a serious health condition caused by exposure to a source of heat (such as sunlight) for a long time, or physical activity in a hot atmosphere.

Elevation of the temperature may lead to cramps in the patient, and may become heat exhaustion, which includes symptoms of excessive sweating, nausea and dizziness.

As the body continues to rise, the damage can reach the brain, kidneys and muscles, causing serious health consequences and may cause death.

A cause of a heat stroke is exposure to a hot environment, especially if the humidity is high.
